A Marine Air Corps flying ace, Captain Thomas was a top fighter pilot in the South Pacific who was called "one of the deadliest fighter pilots the Corps ever produced."

M. K. McNay

Born in Ohio and raised in El Dorado, McNay assembled a personal collection of modern art that eventually became the Marian Koogler McNay Art Museum in San Antonio, Texas, with a reputation as one of the country's finest collections.

William Allen White

Raised in El Dorado and eventually rising to prominence as the "Sage of Kansas," White was the long-time editor of the Emporia Gazette and a highly respected public figure throughout both state and nation.

Ralph Winegarner

A native of Benton, KS, Winegarner played all nine positions except catcher during his major league baseball career and was eventually inducted into both the Kansas and National Baseball Hall of Fame.
